Grid Systems by Kimberly Elam is a book i studies recently and tried to make compositional studies based o the layout taught in the book, below are the results.
Disclaimer: These are hard and fast rules and there is no reason you shouldn't play with compositions as you wish. Break the rules if you need to so long as it satisfies your intent for your design. But this book gives a good starting point.
